On August 22, 2024, a very first old tram arrived in Rapla county!
However, finally the government has turned its face to the people and is acting in the direction that rural people can start giving up cars. Namely, a pilot project has been launched in Raplamaa: “a tram stop for every farm!”
According to the initial plan, the first rails will be laid down as early as April 1, 2025. The government’s condition is that no fossil fuel-powered vehicles should move in Rapla county by that date (including hybrid and electric vehicles, because their energy source is indirectly of fossil origin). Before that, however, all rural people must destroy their vehicles in traffic. If a person has one or more horses, he is considered as a rich and a tram stop is not considered for his farm.
The government’s promise is that instead of a car, each farm will initially have its own personal tram stop. Already in the near future, i.e. by the year 2099, it is planned to equip 25% of all tram stops with rails. By the year 2150, however, 3 more trams will be put on the tracks in addition to the one in the photo, which will start transporting people around the clock.
According to forecasts, rural people can easily get from Märjamaa to Rapla unprecedentedly fast – in just 12-18 hours (through all farms)! In addition, trams also make stops “on demand” because all passengers need to relieve themselves from time to time. Government considering whether to install snack vending machines in the trams or not, as no agreement has been reached on what should be included in this vending machine. Some want something lighter, such as dog crisps, while others favor grilled chicken or even shashlik.
One of the pain points for this project is the fear of a lack of passengers, as there will no longer be living people in rural areas of Estonia. By the year 2099 however, there are tram stops, partial tracks and at least 1 tram – no need to complain.
The way of thinking is completely green, because all of Tallinn’s old trams are used. However, this means that there is no need to mine or to produce steel or to keep tram factories running. In addition, up to €250 per year remains in the state budget.
A citizen named Mr. Raul-Jaak-Ervin-Üksjalgvärav told the interviewer that for several decades he has spent hundreds of millions of Euros to restore the narrow-gauge railway between Rapla and Märjamaa. Until now, he has mainly been involved in clearing the railway embankment of undergrowth, which, according to him, is in half way due to a lack of money.
The idea of the tram project started with the construction of Rail Baltic`s (also the author of this project seems to be Mr. Raul-Jaak-Ervin-Üksjalgvärav – ed.), which is an example for many directors of the absurd theatre. If Rail Baltic already gives power to enthusiasts of pointless and half-baked projects like Mr. Raul-Jaak-Ervin-Üksjalgvärav, why not to start with the next brainless activity!
According to preliminary calculations, tram tickets will be sold only as a monthly ticket, and such a ticket will cost an individual approx. 1,000-1,500€/month, which, according to the government, should not be beyond the reach of any rural person – The farmer is natively rich indeed!
Have a nice driving experience for all tram drivers!
